Choose Clean Water Statement on Retirement of Chesapeake Bay Commission Executive Director Ann Swanson

(ANNAPOLIS, MD)—Yesterday, Chesapeake Bay Commission Executive Director Ann Pesiri Swanson announced her retirement. Swanson has led the Chesapeake Bay Commission since 1988. In response, Choose Clean Water Coalition Director Kristin Reilly issued the following statement:

"All who enjoy the countless benefits of clean water in the Chesapeake Bay watershed owe a debt of gratitude to Ann Swanson. For 34 years, Ann has served as a leader in the movement to protect and restore the rivers and streams that feed the Chesapeake Bay. With her support, the three states the Chesapeake Bay Commission advises—Maryland, Pennsylvania, and Virginia—have made tremendous strides improving the health of their waterways.

"As we look to the future of clean water in our region, we would be well-served to reflect on Ann's tireless advocacy, commitment to science, and consensus building expertise. The Choose Clean Water Coalition and its more than 270 member organizations thank Ann for her decades of service and wish her a happy and fulfilling retirement.”

The Choose Clean Water Coalition is an organization that harnesses the collective power of more than 270 local, state, regional and national groups to advocate for clean rivers and streams in all communities in the Chesapeake region.
